Mornings are a struggle in our house. I have never been, and will never be, a morning person. That means every minute counts, and there is no room for error. As soon as I crawl out of bed, it’s game on. I know exactly how much time I have for the important stuff (brushing my teeth, showering, etc.) and the not-so-important stuff (checking my social media accounts and making the bed!).
It used to be that I considered eating breakfast to be in the not-so-important stuff category. My idea of breakfast was a diet pop and cheese puffs. Now that I’m older and wiser, I’ve come to terms that eating breakfast needs to fall into the important stuff category. Not only for my health, but to also show my daughter the value in starting her day off right.
She doesn’t realize it, but she’s been getting 20% of the daily calcium she needs for strong bones and teeth, by eating her favorite Yoplait yogurt, Orange Creme. Getting enough calcium in our diets has always been a challenge, and this makes obtaining that goal a bit easier. Yoplait yogurt comes in a convenient 8-pack at Walmart, and there is no prep work. No cooking, making, combining or blending! In the mornings when time is of the essence, it literally takes 5 minutes for her to eat breakfast.
That means that I have a few minutes after she gets on the bus to combine those important and not-so important things. Instead of rushing out the door with nothing in my stomach, I have time to catch up on my favorite blogs while eating a real breakfast. However, I still haven’t found time to make the bed…
