Create a Home Spa Experience

Thank you to RevelationsRx for sponsoring today’s post and for allowing me to try their skincare products.

In my quest for a better 2015, I’m doing more things for me. I’ve signed up to run the Bentonville Half Marathon and ride the Dirty Kanza Half Pint this spring. I’m going to bed earlier (before midnight) which has led to actually waking up early enough to workout in the morning. I’m really trying to decrease my stress level by letting things go.

One thing I let go a bit too much was taking care of my skin. I’m pretty good at using my anti-aging products but I’m terrible at washing my face at night. For a person who has several bottles of facial cleansers, I really have no excuse but I’m a realist. I’m on the go all day long and at night, I just want to relax.

So once a week, I’m creating my own home spa experience, equipped with most of things you would get at a professional spa, at a fraction of the cost. It’s simple to do and a great way to de-stress.

How to Create a Home Spa Atmosphere

Put your kids to bed early.

If you have kids, or a pet, or a spouse put them to bed early! Or at least go hide in a section of the house where they can’t find you. One of the reasons going to a spa is so soothing is because there are no distractions. No one needs a drink of water (except maybe you) or needs to go outside.

Dim the lights.

Instead of turning on the lights in your bathroom, grab some candles. When you’re trying to relax, a bright light in your eyes is the last thing you want. I personally like scented candles in a light, fresh scent.

Listen to soothing music.

I have a premium subscription to Spotify just for this reason. There are a couple of playlists that I subscribe to that have relaxing music which is perfect for creating a spa atmosphere at home.

Warm your towels.

I would love to have a towel warming bar in my bathroom but there really isn’t a good place for it so my alternative is to put my towels in the dryer on a high heat setting. For my wet towels, I place them in the microwave for a few seconds.

Try a new skin care product.

I am a product junkie. I have several bottles and jars of products for anti-aging, brightening and protection. I’m always trying new products and my most recent find is the RevelationsRx face masks and serums.

These products were designed to complement your existing skincare routine. Most people cleanse (ahem, except me) and moisturize. Some even take it further and use anti-aging products and skin care products. But every now and then it’s fun, and relaxing, to take your skin care routine a bit further.

Most products just sit on the skin, where their effectiveness is limited. Revelations Rx face masks deliver skin care products deeper into the skin with their patented cell penetrating technology. The masks are made of something called biocellulose, made from coconuts.  The mask easily adheres to the contours of your face for a comfortable fit. As an added benefit, they are also free of parabens, dyes, sulphate, petrochemical and synthetic fragrances.

There are four different types of masks, depending on your skin care concerns: deep hydrating, firming & anti-aging, crow’s feet & fine lines and tired eyes, puffiness & dark circles. While I could use them all, I’ve been using the firming & anti-aging. 40 happens to everyone but that doesn’t mean I have to accept it!
