Keep Calm and Run On with Answers at Walgreens

Some people consider me a runner, heck there are days that I even consider myself a runner, but lately I’ve been doing more walking because my hip has been flaring up. The logical, rational part of me says I need to go to a doctor and figure out what’s going on but then the emotional side of me knows the answer. I’ll probably be told to take up yoga or something else that doesn’t put pressure on my joints. I’m not the yoga type. Breathing deeply does not calm me. What calms me is lacing up my running shoes and pounding the pavement. In order for me to keep calm (and run on), I decided to try out the new Answers at Walgreens chat feature.

Last night my daughter and I had to run to Walgreens to pick up some contact solution. It was really late and she was super hyper. You know, how kids get this burst of energy right before they have to go to bed? That’s where she was. As soon as we walked into Walgreens, I knew I had to make this trip quick. As she was bouncing off the walls while I tried to pick out saline solution, I felt a twinge in my hip. Earlier in the day I had gone for a quick run with no issues but now, 8 hours later, my hip was starting to ache. Not sure what kind of meds I had at home, I walked over to the pain aisle to check out meds. That lasted about 3o seconds before Brecken started pulling pamphlets out of the racks. Luckily for me she pulled a brochure about the Answers at Walgreens program.

I know the pharmacists at Walgreens are always there to talk to me but when it’s late at night (or when I have a hyper kid), it’s nice to know that I can chat with them online 24/7. My brain doesn’t really start to work until my kid goes to bed. That’s when I remember that I need to pay bills, maybe shower and figure out what to do about my hip pain.

All you have to do to chat is become a registered user on their site. I was in their system but needed to add some additional information. Once you complete the registration process and agree to their terms and conditions, you’re directed to chat with a pharmacy professional.

I was immediately connected with Rose, who identified herself as a pharmacist. She provided me with some medication recommendations based on my pain level and even recommended I buy the Walgreens brand because their medications were just as effective. Overall the process was quick, easy and not intimidating. I could also chat from the privacy of my  home without having other customers listen to my conversation.

And probably my second favorite thing about this service is you can have a transcript of the chat emailed to you! Because you know how well my memory is at 2 in the morning. 🙂 Instead of going to WebMD to find out the answers to some of my medical questions, I’m going to log onto Answers at Walgreens and get some real advice, from a real person! And in the morning, I’m going to lace up those running shoes and run on.

  1. Genius! I think that this would be super helpful as well for remembering dosages for the kids in the middle of the night.

    • So true! Especially when many medications say ask your physician or pharmacist. Just log on to Walgreens website and get your answer. No calling required.

  2. How cool that they have this chat featuer! I’ll have to remember it when I have medication questions.

  3. I LOVE that you can have the chat transcript mailed to you!! It makes things so much easier when you’re trying to remember all of the information you got from the pharmacist!

  4. I love that you can talk to a real person to get information and answers! That definitely helps!

  5. I love Walgreens It is like a one stop shop

  6. Love it… and as the same type of person who has to pound the pavement (although I wish I could find a nice trail to solve the pounding problem) to get my day going, me knee has been acting up. Not only did I learn about Walgreens interactive feature, I got my, ahem, med advice, haha. Just kidding, I’m going to check this out for my own advice… thanks for the tip! Walgreens rocks!

    • OK, weird fact about me, I like to count lines when I’m running. By that I mean lines on the sidewalk, etc. I don’t know if I could keep up with counting sticks along a trail! I used to be a treadmill rat (the whole numbers thing) so maybe there is hope for me yet because a nice trail would be much easier on the joints.
